Whale watching Head out on an exciting marine wild life excursion out into the Clayoquot Sound. (On our 25 passenger vessel exposure suits are not needed.) We will stop and visit the many Eagles, and watch them build nests, tend to their young, fish, and soar on the air currents above. We continue on our journey over the traditional feeding grounds of the Grey whale. We must be ever watchful for pods of Orcas (killer whales) as they pass through on their hunt for food. Stops may be made to view seal and sea lion colonies at their local haul-outs. A very important part of every cruise is the bird wild life. One of our favorite areas visit is the off shore bird sanctuary where 9 species of birds nest at different times throughout the year. They host Puffins, Gulls Cormorants, Common Muirs and many other species. In this region we see Grey Whales, Orcas, Humpbacks and Minkies. Throughout these cruises we are on the lookout, and often see Porpoises, Sunfish, River Otters, and Sea Otters. Our guides take pride in sharing both history and relative native folklore throughout the entire cruise. Hot springs The boat cruise will be on our12, 15 or 25-passenger cabin cruisers and is approx. 1 hour 15 minutes long each way. This leg of the tour takes us north through 26 miles of Clayoquot Sound to Hot Springs Cove. En route (weather permitting), we may view seals and stellar Sea lion colonies on the wind swept ocean reefs. Stops may also be made at the favorite whale feeding bays to spy the gentle giants in their natural habitat, or even see Killer Whales (Orcas) as they pass through on their hunt for food. Stops may also be made for viewing the special bird life. (Eagles and their young, Puffins and a multitude of other species.) Once at Hot Springs Cove we'll disembark on Hot Springs Dock and head out on a 1.5 km. cedar boardwalk through pristine old growth forest and rugged shore line to the tip of the Sharp Point peninsula where the hot springs are located. There is a change room for changing into swim suits. The hot springs are at ocean level and are almost boiling where they emerge from the ground then the Hot-spring travel down 15 meters, over a waterfall and into several natural rock pools. People in the lower pools at certain tides can enjoy a rush of cold ocean then hot spring water. You then descend into the natural pools for a soothing soak in the 42 degree C mineral waters that is so good for the mind and the body! Bring a picnic lunch, refreshments, walking shoes, bathing suit, water slippers, a towel and a camera. We spend approx. 3 hours on the Hot Springs portion of the tour. On the cruise back to Tofino, in your relaxed state of mind, you will take in the breathtaking West Coast scenery. View first nation villages, temperate rain forests, and rugged mountains. Back in time to satisfy a huge appetite. A truly great way to spend a Clayoquot day. Walk the Wild side Start the day off with check-in at Seaside Adventures, then board one of our vessels for a half-hour boat ride from Tofino and travel 15 km north to the remote, First Nations (Aboriginal) Village of Marktosis. The village is located in the northern portion of Clayoquot Sound on Flores Island, which is the largest island in the sound. From here we walk through part of the village to the start of the Wild Side trail. Our trail takes us through 11 km of pristine wilderness and spectacular Pacific Ocean beaches. The beaches range from quiet serene coves to rugged surf pounded beaches. The trail is made up of hand hewn cedar boardwalk and natural trails, which connects 8 beautiful white sandy beaches and natural trails. While on the Wild side trail we will be traveling by the summer feeding bays of the Grey Whale and a multitude of wild life and bird life, which live in the old growth forest. Our naturalist guides are optional and take pride in sharing explanations of local flora and fauna. Also the guides are well versed in areas that are rich with native history and folklore. For the more energetic hiker they can continue on an additional 4-km to the top of Mt. Flores, which has a height of 3,000 feet or 970 meters. The views from there are breathtaking and second to none. Along the way to and from Tofino, stops may be made for the local marine wild life, eagle and their aeries, Great Blue Herons, seals, sea-lions and spot the porpoise, which are abundant in the area.
